Horse, Pony & Showjumping Classes

Llanthony Show has a range of horse and pony classes for all ages. There are classes for working hunters, riding horses & ponies, as well as novelty and young handler. The Welsh Section A, B, C and D classes also qualify for points for the Brecon and Borders Association.

2019 Horse and Pony Classes

Working Hunter

£4 pre-entry (closes 22nd July 2019)
£5 on the day
1st - £10, 2nd - £8, 3rd - £5

1. Working hunter open, to be ridden by a person suitable for the horse or pony. Jumps not to exceed 2ft 3in

2. Working hunter open, to be ridden by a person suitable for the horse or pony. Jumps not to exceed2ft 6in

3. Working hunter open, to be ridden by a person suitable for the horse or pony. Jumps not to exceed2ft 9in

4. Working hunter open, to be ridden by a person suitable for the horse or pony. Jumps not to exceed1ft 6in. Lead rein permitted

1st and 2nd prize winners from classes 1 - 4 to come forward for the Working Hunter Championship
Champion and Reserve Champion to go forward to the overall Ridden Championship

Riding Horses

£4 pre-entry (closes 22nd July 2019)
£5 on the day
1st - £10, 2nd - £8, 3rd - £5
Rosettes: 1st to 6th

A. Best turned out (open) over 14.2hh
Prizes 1st £15, 2nd £10, 3rd £5

5. Best horse suitable to be a member of a pony/riding club exceeding 14.2hh. Competitors may be asked to jump a fence.

6. Open riding horse over 14.2hh

7. Large Mountain and Moorland to be registered with the relevant breed society.

8. Racehorse to riding horse.

9. Best veteran 15 years and over, ridden or in hand. Special rosette given to the eldest horse or pony

1st and 2nd prize winners from classes 5 - 9 to go forward to the Riding Horse Championship

Riding Ponies

£4 pre-entry (closes 22nd July 2019)
£5 on the day
1st - £10, 2nd - £8, 3rd - £5
Rosettes: 1st to 6th

B. Best turned out (open) 14.2hh and under
Prizes 1st £15, 2nd £10, 3rd £5

10. Leading rein pony, mare or gelding not exceeding 12hh, over 4 years, to be ridden by a child 8yrs or under on 1st Jan 2019. Snaffle bridles only

11. Best pony, suitable to be a member of a pony club not to exceed 14.2hh to be ridden by a child under 16 years on 1st Jan 2019. Competitors may be asked to jump a small jump

12. First Ridden, not to exceed 12.2hh, rider 10 years or under on 1st Jan 2019

13. Small breed Mountain and Moorland to be registered with the relevant breed society

14. Coloured ridden or In hand including palomino, appaloosa, piebald, skewbald and dun, to be shown plaited or native/traditional

1st and 2nd prize winners from classes 10 - 14 to go forward to the Riding Pony Championship

Welsh Section A, B, C and D Classes

Welsh Pony and Cob Bronze Medal Show

Affiliated to Welsh Pony and Cob Society (WPCS)

These classes also qualify for points for the Brecon and Borders Association

Pre-Entries close 22nd July 2019

Entry fees: £5 pre-entry.

Prize money: 1st - £10 2nd - £8 3rd - £5

Rosettes to 6th place, plus special rosette for highest placed geldings in each class.

Bronze medals are awarded to the Champion or Reserve of each section, with a current WPCS membership card. Medals will only be given out on presentation of current membership card.

A copy will also be available for viewing at the Horse and Pony Secretary’s tent on the day of the Show

On entering this show you agree to abide by the following regulations:

1. Welsh Pony and Cob Society (WPCS) – The Show is held under the governing body of the WPCS and exhibitors agree to be bound by the Society’s rules and regulations where applicable.

2. Breed Registration – All entries must be registered with the WPCS and foals eligible for registration. The registration details required on the entry forms must be given in full. Those without will be returned. Registration checks will be made with the WPCS.

3. Owner/Lessee's membership card MUST be produced in the Show ring before a Bronze Medal can be awarded. If the owner of the Champion is not able to produce their membership card, the Reserve Champion may receive the Medal down to Second Reserve (third).

4. All stallions exhibited in stallion classes MUST be in possession of a Welsh Pony & Cob Society Licence of Correctness or equivalent.

Section A

Judge: TBC

Welsh Part Bred (These will not be run under WPCS Rules)

  1. 3 years old and under, to be shown in hand
  2. 4 years old and over, to be shown ridden or in hand

  • Section championship for 1st & 2nd prize winners from classes 35 & 36

Overall Gelding Championship

Welsh Pony & Cob Gelding Incentive Scheme - Overall Gelding Champion and Reserve, to be competed for by the highest placed geldings from each appropriate class within Sections A, B, C and D, generously sponsored by the Millcroft Stud. This will be judged before the Welsh Championship.

The winner and reserve will then be asked to come forward to the overall Welsh Championship.

Welsh Championship

Prize: £25 and £15 voucher kindly donated by Spillers Horse Feed

Champion and Reserve in each section to come forward for the Welsh Championship. (This will be judged on the completion of the Young Handler classes).

Young Handler

Winners of classes 37 and 38 will be presented with their own trophies to keep

Showjumping

Novelty Pony Show

Approximately 12pm Main Ring
Entry Fee: £5 for all six classes

Rosettes awarded for:

 * Pony with the prettiest face

 * Pony with the best tail

 * Pony the judge would like to take home

 * Best Thelwell look-alike

 * Best six legs

 * Best dressed pony and rider

Any person riding a horse, anywhere on the Showground, is required to wear a hard hat of BSEN 1384, VG01 and PAS015 standard and ensure that the chinstrap is fastened. No horses to be ridden outside permitted areas.
All riders are advised to wear body protectors.
All horses and ponies to be on the field by 8.30am
Judging to commence at 9.00am prompt.
Entries for all classes can be pre-entered or made on the day to the Horse and Pony Secretary, before 9.00am.
Prize money and cups presented with rosettes.
All rings judged simultaneously.
